VfL Wolfsburg Women produced a superb performance against Bayern Munich in front of 17,152 spectators at the Volkswagen Arena to win 2-0 thanks to goals from Vivien Endemann (5’) and Lineth Beerensteyn (67’).
Match summary
Both teams were still trying to settle into the game when VfL took the lead after five minutes, Endemann ruthlessly punishing a mistake from Jovana Damnjanovic. That early goal helped the Green-and-Whites, as did their tactical discipline, strength in the tackle and willingness to cover ground, allowing them to dominate in their best performance of the season so far.
Tommy Stroot’s side remained focused for the full 90 minutes and deservedly and decisively went 2-0 up through substitute Lineth Beerensteyn in the 67th minute.
Goals
- 1-0 Endemann (5’): Under no pressure from an opponent, Damnjanovic plays the ball into Endemann’s path. Jinking in from the left, the VfL attacker skips past two defenders and smashes the ball into the top-right corner. What a start!
- 2-0 Beerensteyn (67’): Bayern struggle to clear their lines following a corner, allowing Beerensteyn to rifle in from close range.
Reaction
Tommy Stroot: “We were efficient and got our reward for a great performance. We worked hard out of possession and ultimately deserved to win given the clear-cut chances we created.”
