Impressive return to European action

VfL Women earned a 7-0 win over Fiorentina in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifier.

VfL Wolfsburg Women produced a performance as close to perfection as you can get at the Stadio Curva Fiesole in Florence, dominating from start to finish en route to recording a 7-0 victory over Fiorentina in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying play-off.

The decisive second leg, to determine who reaches the group stage proper, will be played on Wednesday 25 September (at 18:30 CEST) at the AOK Stadion in Wolfsburg.

Goals

  • 0-1 Hegering (6’): The perfect start for VfL! A corner from Svenja Huth is met by Marina Hegering, who buries a diving header into the net for the opener!
     
  • 0-2 Hegering (24’): Lynn Wilms delivers a free-kick to the back post, where Hegering is well placed once again to head in from close range.
     
  • 0-3 Popp (38’): Huth crosses into the middle from the right and finds Alex Popp, who volleys in VfL’s third goal.
     
  • 0-4 Brand (44’): Another goal and another assist from Huth, who plays a delightful ball into the path of Jule Brand inside the box. The Germany international jinks past Maria Luisa Filangeri and makes it 4-0 with a shot into the right-hand corner.
     
  • 0-5 Popp (53’): Huth with another fine assist! After a lovely run forward she plays the ball into Popp, who prods over the line from close range.
     
  • 0-6 Popp (56’): Popp completes her hat-trick, making it 6-0 to VfL after reacting first to a blocked shot inside the area.
     
  • 0-7 Endemann (83’): Rebecka Blomqvist plays a smart pass into the middle, where Vivien Endemann finishes off the move with a shot inside the left-hand post. at Stadio Curva Fiesole (Florence).
