Högner leaves VfL

VfL Wolfsburg women's team assistant coach Markus Högner has left his position with immediate effect.

The She-Wolves will be without the 51-year-old in the second half of the season after his contract was terminated by mutual consent on 31 December 2018. Högner will return to SGS Essen as head coach from 1 July 2019, having previously enjoyed a successful spell there between 2010 and 2016. He subsequently joined the coaching staff of the German women's national team under head coach Steffi Jones, before arriving in Wolfsburg in summer 2018 as part of Stephan Lerch's backroom team.

"We thank Markus for his work"

"Markus Högner approached us and expressed his desire to work as a head coach in the Allianz Women's Bundesliga again," said Ralf Kellermann, sporting director of the VfL Ladies. "Together, we came to the decision to end our working relationship with immediate effect. We thank Markus for all his work here and wish him all the best for the future."
