Hanging up her boots

Kristin Demann will call time on her playing career at the end of the current season.

Another She-Wolves player has announced her impending retirement from football after midfielder Kristin Demann confirmed she will call time on her playing career at the end of the season.

“Huge gratitude”

“Football has been a part of my life since I was four years old,” said Demann, 32. “I’ve had the great fortune to travel to different places, meet special people, experience extraordinary things and forge my own path. Even though this isn’t an easy step for me and there’s a lot of sadness associated with it, it still feels like the right time. I look back on this intense, emotional and unforgettable period with huge gratitude. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has accompanied me on this journey, supported me and believed in me. Even though I’ll really miss football and spending time with the team, I’m looking forward to the future and everything that lies ahead. That said, I’m going to enjoy the next few weeks as much as possible – with the team and with the ball at my feet.”

“Impressive career”

“Kristin has had to fight her way back from injury several times in her career, including recently, but she has always managed to return to the highest level,” said Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg. “All in all, she can look back on an impressive career in which she achieved great things with several teams over the years. Her experience and qualities as a team player made Tini a very valuable member of our squad – and she still is. We wish her all the best for the future.”

Twenty Germany appearances

When Demann joined Wolfsburg as a 29-year-old in summer 2022, she could already look back on a remarkable career. The Lower Saxony native made her Bundesliga debut for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in 2010 before spells at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (2013-2017), Bayern Munich (2017-2022) and 1. FC Köln (2022). She has made 158 appearances in the Women’s Bundesliga, as well as 24 in the DFB Cup – which she won twice with VfL – and 22 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. She also won three Bundesliga titles with Turbine Potsdam and Bayern.

Demann has made 20 senior appearances for Germany and also won the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship as a youngster.
