Group win on ice

VfL Women had to be content with a goalless draw in the UWCL against Slavia Praha.

The She-Wolves missed out on a chance to confirm their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Friday night, with head coach Tommy Stroot’s charges having to be content with a 0-0 draw against SK Slavia Praha at home at the AOK Stadion in their fifth group game.

Despite dominating the match, the Green-and-Whites could not find a way past Olivia Lukasova, who was the standout performer in goal for the Czechs. Next Thursday, 22 December, VfL Women will finish off the group stage of the tournament away to SK St. Pölten (kick-off: 18.45 CET), in what will be their last match of 2022.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “Olivie Lukasova was named player of the match, which tells you a lot about how the game went. Just looking at the facts, we did a lot of things very well and had a good grip on the game, including in defence, where we managed to get the ball back very quickly in a lot of situations. That gave us the right structure to carve out good opportunities and some gilt-edged chances once we were in possession. We didn’t manage to come away with anything from over 30 shots on goal though, which frustrates both me and the entire group. There’s nothing worse than not getting the win.”
