Goalless draw in first friendly

VfL Women were held by promoted side FC Carl Zeiss Jena.

VfL Wolfsburg Women were held to a 0-0 draw by FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the team’s first pre-season friendly of the summer. Prior to kick-off, the VfL Women’s U17s earned a 6-0 win over their Jena counterparts.

In Ariana Arias, Lineth Beerensteyn and Justine Kielland, three new signings were named in the starting line-up by head coach Tommy Stroot, who said before the game that his aim was for his players to “get back into certain movement patterns and to show them to the newcomers”.

Although the She-Wolves had more possession throughout the encounter – in which U20 players Yasu Wöhrn and Lilly Damm were also given playing time – it was not enough to find the net.

The Green-and-Whites are next in friendly action on Saturday 27 July (kick-off 14:00 CEST) when they take on Slavia Prague in Calberlah (in the Gifhorn district).

Head coach Tommy Stroot: “It wasn’t an easy game because a lot of our players are currently away on international duty, and we haven’t trained very much. We’re happy that everyone got some playing time – that was important today.”
