VfL Wolfsburg began their preparations for the 2022/23 season with a flurry of goals in their first friendly of the summer. New head coach Niko Kovac’s charges raced to a 4-0 half-time lead against a Veltins XI made up of amateur players from around the Wolfsburg region, and ultimately ended up winning 9-1. The Green-and-Whites, sporting their brand-new home jerseys for the first time, took the lead through Felix Lange (8), with further goals from Kevin Paredes (24’), Melvin Berkemer (31’) and Maximilian Arnold (33’) before the interval. Luca Waldschmidt (53’, 57’, 66’, 85’) struck four times in the second half, while Ridle Baku was also on target. Jan-Philipp Helms scored the consolation goal for the Veltins XI. The Wolves are in action again on Saturday 2 July in the Volkswagen Cup 2022, a mini tournament that will be held in Osnabrück.
