Goal-fest against Nice

The Wolves pass their final pre-season test with flying colours.

In what was the dress rehearsal ahead of the start of the season, VfL Wolfsburg cruised to an 8-1 win over OGC Nice at the AOK Stadion. The Green-and-Whites dominated the French Ligue 1 outfit, particularly in the second half of the 120-minute match. Yannick Gerhardt (75’, 85’) bagged a brace, while Felix Klaus (7’), Wout Weghorst (30’), Josip Brekalo (78’), Felix Uduokhai (97’), Renato Steffen from the spot (107’) and Jeffrey Bruma (117’) all joined him on the scoresheet.

"Worked really well"

Oliver Glasner: "That was a great performance today. A lot of things that we talked about and also focused on in training worked really well today. But we know what’s really important. We obviously prefer to finish off pre-season with a result like this but we also saw one or two things that we will have to run through. Particularly at the end of the first half, we were wide open in certain situations. But what we could also see was the fact that the guys have implemented what we are working on in training with a real sense of focus and commitment. That’s great to see, as was the fact that so many players are pushing one another. You can’t get through the season with 11 players, and I was really pleased with all 22 of them today."
