Gearing up in Schladming

No sooner had the Wolves arrived at their training camp in Austria than they were back out on the pitch working up a sweat.

VfL Wolfsburg arrived in the Austrian town of Schladming on Friday, where they will lay the foundations for the upcoming 2019/20 season with a training camp packed with intensive drills and exercises. The Wolves will also play two friendlies: first against Turkish side Fenerbahce (on Monday 22 July, kick-off 18:30 CEST) before facing 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday 27 July (kick-off 15:00), following which they will return home to Wolfsburg.

Mehmedi arrives separately

A total of 28 players make up the camp, including Admir Mehmedi, who joined up with his teammates from his home in Switzerland following the recent birth of his daughter. Over the coming days, Marcel Tisserand will also arrive after being granted an extended break due to his involvement at the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Daniel Ginczek did not travel with the squad after undergoing minor surgery on his back.

Straight to work

After settling into their base in Schladming, VfL head coach Oliver Glasner led the team's first training session on Friday afternoon, including stabilisation exercises and ball work.

Elvis Rexhbecaj, who broke a bone in his hand in the friendly against PSV Eindhoven, did not participate but will wear a splint for the rest of the week in order to take a full part in the training camp.
