Free transfer from Hoffenheim

Goalkeeper Martina Tufekovic will join VfL Women this summer.

VfL Wolfsburg Women had already secured the services of Stina Johannes in March, and now their goalkeeping ranks are set to be further bolstered, with Martina Tufekovic joining the Green-and-Whites as of 1 July. The 30-year-old stopper will be moving on a free transfer from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, signing a deal that will tie her to the club until 30 June 2027.

“An honour for me”

“In terms of their objectives and what they have already achieved, VfL Wolfsburg set the standard in women’s football,” said Tufekovic of her decision to move to the She-Wolves. “I was obviously delighted to hear that they were interested in me. It’s an honour for me to have another opportunity to join such a big club. I feel that I’m ready for a new challenge and want to help us be successful as a team.”

“Significant experience”

“We are delighted that in Martina, we have been able to secure the services of another goalkeeper with significant experience in the Women’s Bundesliga,” said Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg. “She has been playing at a very high level for a number of years now and has proved herself on the international stage, which is why we are so pleased that Martina will be a part of what will once again be an excellent team of goalkeepers next season.”

164 appearances for TSG

Tufekovic was 16 when she joined her current club, Hoffenheim, as an Under-17 player. She made her debut in the Women’s Bundesliga on 13 April 2014 against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam and has gone on to rack up 164 appearances for TSG, ten of them in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and qualifiers. She has joint German and Croatian citizenship, and in October 2021 received her first call-up to the German national team.
