First Team

Final say: Freiburg

The key facts and figures following Saturday’s home match against SC Freiburg.

The first-half dismissal of VfL captain Maximilian Arnold proved to be the turning point in VfL Wolfsburg’s home defeat to SC Freiburg on Saturday. The visitors took control of proceedings after Arnold’s red card and although the compact Wolves initially restricted Freiburg to very few openings, Max Rosenfelder netted the game’s only goal shortly after the break.

VfL showed great character despite their numerical disadvantage, but they could only muster half-chances as Freiburg held on to claim all three points. Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side remain 12th in the table and are now winless in their last seven games.
