“Felt comfortable from the start”

An interview with VfL Women’s new signing Cora Zicai.

Cora Zicai will be part of the She-Wolves squad from the summer. In an interview, the 20-year-old German international speaks about, among other things, her playing style, her hobbies and her decision to move to Wolfsburg.

Cora, nice that you’re here! What’s your first impression of VfL?

Cora Zicai: “Everything’s very green! (laughs) But the conditions and the facilities are just first-class. I’m looking forward to the coming years.”

Why did you choose the She-Wolves?

Cora: “VfL have demonstrated over a number of years how good they are and the high level they can compete at. We had very good negotiations and I felt comfortable with the plan and the concept that were outlined to me here right from the start, so it was an easy decision to make in the end.

You were born and raised in Freiburg. The transfer to Wolfsburg is also a move away from home for you – how do you feel about that?

Cora: “It’s certainly going to be a challenge for me, being so far away from my family soon. However, I have big footballing ambitions and I think I’m making the right decision with VfL.”

You’ve just been away with the national team, scored your second international goal and were also here in Wolfsburg with the team. Tell us how it’s going for you there.

Cora: “It’s really cool to be involved. My first call-up wasn’t that long ago and I’ve just made my third senior international appearance. I find it great training and playing with top players. I’m enjoying every minute and taking what I can from it.”

What can VfL fans look forward to when you come in the summer? What do you offer as a footballer?

Cora: “I’m a creative player who likes to dribble and try lots of things. I hope I can bring something new to the team with my flair.”

And what kind of person are you off the pitch?

Cora: “I’d say I’m a person who likes to experience adventure. I do a lot with friends and like travelling. I enjoy discovering new places.”

Do you have any favourite travel destinations?

Cora: “I went to New York for the first time in the winter and then to Hawaii. I think that was up there with the craziest experiences I’ve ever had.”

Sounds like a cool combination! You already know the She-Wolves quite well as an opponent – what have you made of them up to now?

Cora: “You can tell they’re a top club. The players know what they’re capable of, and so does the club of course. I’m looking forward to being part of it soon.”

Have you already been in touch with any current VfL players about what it’s like in Wolfsburg?

Cora: “Yes. I’ve known Jani [Janina Minge] for a long time, I played with her at Freiburg. I asked her what it’s like here, and I also chatted to Jule [Brand].”
