Monday saw the draw carried out in Nyon for the qualifying rounds of this season’s UEFA Europa League, with VfL set to face FK Kukesi in the second round of qualifying on Thursday 17 September. The Albanian club, coached by Skënder Gegam, got through the first round of qualifying by beating Slavia Sofia 2-1. The matches at this stage are one leg only, with extra time and penalties where necessary.
To make it into the group stage, VfL will have to get through three rounds. If they get past the 2017 Albanian league champions, the Green-and-Whites will play a third-round tie on 24 September, with the draw for those matches taking place on Tuesday 1 September. The final step for Glasner’s men on the road to the group stage will then be the play-off round, which will be held on 1 October.
