VfL Women have strengthened their defence for next season with the signing of Janou Levels from Bundesliga rivals Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The 24-year-old Dutchwoman has agreed a contract until 30 June 2028 with the She-Wolves.
“Wolfsburg is the next step”
“VfL are a club with a long history and big ambitions, so I was very pleased about their interest,” said Levels. “Wolfsburg is the next step for me and I’m looking forward to this new challenge. I hope I can continue my development here while helping the team with my qualities. I’m a player who always gives 100 percent and I will do that at VfL as well. For now, however, my focus is on the next few weeks with Bayer 04 Leverkusen.”
“Excellent mentality”“
Anyone who sees Janou on the pitch soon realises that she has an excellent mentality,” said Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL. “This fits perfectly with the way we want to portray ourselves as VfL Wolfsburg. What’s also especially important for us is that she’s already gained valuable experience in the Women’s Bundesliga over the past two years. That will help her to quickly find her feet with us. We’re therefore absolutely delighted to add Janou to our defence from next season.”
Women’s Bundesliga player since 2023
Levels began her career with CTO Eindhoven before joining PSV Eindhoven ahead of the 2018/19 season. The defender made a total of 117 competitive appearances for PSV in the Dutch top flight, the cup competitions and qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Champions League. In 2023, Levels moved to Leverkusen, where she has made 38 appearances in the Women’s Bundesliga and DFB Cup to date. She has also represented Netherlands at every youth level and made her first of two appearances for the Dutch senior national team on 29 November 2021.
