Day one of training camp

VfL Women started the final week of pre-season with a relaxed sessionhttp://www.oberaudorftrailfestival.com/

The She-Wolves have successfully completed the first day of their training camp. Here is a summary of the first hours in Harsewinkel and a look ahead at what is to come.

Gentle first session

The Green-and-Whites arrived by coach at the Hotel Klosterpforte late on Monday morning. After a hearty lunch, they headed out onto the training pitch for the first time. Two days on from the friendly against PSV Eindhoven, the majority of the squad were afforded a fairly relaxed session. Olympic returnees Jule Brand and Sarai Linder, who had not yet been out on the pitch with the team in the previous week, were also involved.

Crash course ahead of Supercup

The intensity will increase from tomorrow onwards. “It’s also about integrating the last lot of players,” said VfL head coach Tommy Stroot in the lead-up, referring in particular to the German internationals, who because of the Olympics have only been back with VfL for a few days. What also makes this training camp special is the short period of just five days, ahead of the Supercup against Bayern Munich this Sunday. “It’s a training camp with particular challenges,” added Stroot. “We want to get all the phases of our play into the players’ heads so that we can perform in the best possible way against Bayern.”

Four join late

As well as the training sessions, two social evenings should also help to strengthen the team spirit, in the hope that a tight-knit group off the pitch will deliver even better performances on it. All 30 members of the She-Wolves’ squad are at the camp, although four players did miss the first day. Merle Frohms, Svenja Huth, Kathrin Hendrich and Lineth Beerensteyn only arrived late at night on Monday, having taken part in a marketing day for the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga in Frankfurt earlier in the day.
