VfL Women can all but kiss goodbye to their title chances with two matchdays left in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga season. The second-placed She-Wolves went down 4-0 in their away game against Eintracht Frankfurt, leaving them four points behind FC Bayern Munich, who pulled clear with a 1-0 victory over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Friday night. While mathematically anything is still possible, Bayern dropping points in their remaining fixtures at Leverkusen and at home to Potsdam is an unrealistic scenario.
Focus on finals
VfL can now completely concentrate on their two finals – starting with the DFB Cup. This Thursday (18 May, kick-off 16:45 CEST), they’re bidding for their 10th cup crown against SC Freiburg, which would make them the outright record winners of the competition. The second final is in the UEFA Women’s Champions League against FC Barcelona on 3 June.
Merle Frohms: “The defeat hurts and is painful. There’s no need to gloss over the game. We fell short. We just didn’t play well and were also unlucky in some situations. We now need to analyse the game in a matter-of-fact way and concentrate on the important assignments ahead.”
