Cora Zicai to join VfL Women

The Germany international striker will move to Wolfsburg in the summer.

VfL Wolfsburg Women are bringing in another Germany international this summer, with Cora Zicai moving from Bundesliga rivals SC Freiburg on a free transfer. The 20-year-old striker, who has been handed the number 28 shirt, has signed a contract that ties her to the Green-and-Whites through to 30 June 2028.

“I felt at home with the concept”

“VfL have demonstrated how good they are over a number of years, and what kind of level they can compete at. We had good negotiations and I felt at home with the concept that they outlined to me right from the start, so it was an easy decision to make,” said Zicai, who will be joining the club in a few months. “I can’t wait for this summer, but until then, I’ll be giving 100 percent in my remaining matches with SC Freiburg.”

“Enormous potential”

“We are delighted to have persuaded a highly talented German international like Cora to come and join us here at VfL. In recent months, she has constantly demonstrated the enormous potential that she has,” said Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg. “We are convinced that Cora’s qualities will be able to help our team right from day one, but at the same time, we’ll be giving her the time and the opportunity to continue on her positive development path here in Wolfsburg.”

85 appearances for Freiburg

Zicai has played for her hometown club Freiburg since 2017, making her Women’s Bundesliga debut on 7 March 2021 against Bayern Munich. She also won the bronze Fritz Walter medal in the U17 category in 2021. The 20-year-old has made a total of 85 appearances for Freiburg, while also making her way up through her country’s youth ranks. On 29 November 2024, the day of her 20th birthday, she made her full international debut against Switzerland and scored her first goal. She has gone on to play three times for her country and score two goals.
