Comfortable win strengthens lead

VfL Wolfsburg beat closest pursuers Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 on Saturday.

Die VfL Wolfsburg-Spielerinnen jubeln nach einem Tor.

To say VfL Wolfsburg Women are difficult to beat would be an understatement. In front of 14,027 spectators at the Volkswagen Arena, the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga leaders cruised to a 5-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, who had occupied second place in the table going into Saturday. Bayern Munich have leapfrogged Eintracht into second but still remain five points behind the Green-and-Whites.

Jill Roord scored a hat-trick in the comfortable win, with birthday girl Ewa Pajor also getting on the scoresheet and Sara Doorsoun putting through her own net.

Goals

1-0 Roord (5’): VfL take the lead with a magnificent strike. Lena Lattwein picks out the unmarked Roord, who wastes no time in pulling the trigger and sends the ball into the top left corner.

2-0 Roord (42’): Roord scores again! The visitors fail to properly clear their lines inside the penalty area, allowing the 25-year-old to find the net from an acute angle. Goalkeeper Stina Johannes, who let the ball slip through her grasp, will be disappointed not to have done better.

3-0 Pajor (44’): Two goals in three minutes for the She-Wolves. Pajor is left unmarked at a corner and heads home from a central position. The ball takes a wicked deflection off Verena Hanshaw on its way in.

4-0 Roord (50’): Popp sends in a perfect cross for Roord, who escapes her marker and heads back across Johannes to complete her first hat-trick for the Green-and-Whites.

5-0 Doorsoun (OG, 86’): Jule Brand sets off down the right, spots Roord in a good position and sends a cross into the area. Doorsoun beats Roord to the ball but only manages to steer

Reaction

Head coach Tommy Stroot: “We produced one of our best performances of the season today. We were very consistent in the right moments and in the right places, both defensively and offensively, against opponents who made it tough for us for 90 minutes. I’m very happy with what we showed on the pitch today.”
