The She-Wolves claimed another emphatic victory on Matchday 18 of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga, beating SC Freiburg 4-1 on Saturday lunchtime in front of 3,795 spectators at the Dreisamstadion. After a difficult first quarter of an hour, the Green-and-Whites needed just seven minutes to open up a commanding lead. Lena Oberdorf netted the first goal (24’) before a quickfire brace from Ewa Pajor (27’ and 31’) made it 3-0 at half-time. In the second period, Eileen Campbell briefly reduced the deficit for the hosts (59’), but the She-Wolves weren’t unnerved and made sure of the three points with another goal through Riola Xhemaili (62’).
Goals
- 0-1 Oberdorf (24’): Freiburg’s Annie Karich plays a stray pass in her own half. Chantal Hagel picks it up and squares it to Oberdorf, who slots in the opener.
- 0-2 Pajor (27’): Good play by Svenja Huth as she carries the ball superbly down the right wing and gets all the way to the byline. From there she picks out Pajor, who taps it in.
- 0-3 Pajor (31’): After a chance for Freiburg, Merle Frohms launches a quick attack. Her goal kick reaches Hagel, who shows good anticipation to play a perfect pass into the path of Pajor, and the Pole finds the net from 11 metres.
- 1-3 Campbell (59’): Freiburg’s Campbell has plenty of space on the left side after a through ball from Karich, and she holds her nerve in front of Frohms to make it 3-1.
- 1-4 Xhemaili (62’): Again the Wolfsburg goal originates from a mistake by the hosts. The ball ricochets to Xhemaili, who takes a touch to set herself before curling a delightful shot into the net as the She-Wolves put the result beyond doubt.
Reaction
