Women

Comfortable win in Cologne

VfL Women stay top with a 4-0 win at 1. FC Köln.

Die Frauen des VfL Wolfsburg bejubeln gemeinsam auf dem Feld einen Treffer.

Anyone who was expecting VfL Women to drop points for the first time in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga this season at the end of a busy week was left disappointed. The She-Wolves despatched Köln – who were unbeaten at home until now – 4-0 with an impressive performance, making it eight wins from eight this term. Watched by a record attendance of 5,400 at the Franz-Kremer-Stadion, Marina Hegering and Alexandra Popp netted a brace each for the She-Wolves.

Next up for the reigning double winners is a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, 3 December (kick-off 13:00 CET), when the league leaders entertain closest challengers Eintracht Frankfurt at the Volkswagen Arena.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “We’ve very happy with the result. We prepared ourselves extremely well because we knew the crowd and the quality of the opposition that awaited us, so I’m very happy with how the match panned out. The two quick goals in the first half helped us a lot because we also missed one or two opportunities. Generally it wasn’t an easy game in Cologne, so I’m very pleased with the 4-0 win and our performance.”
