Captain agrees new deal

Alexandra Popp has extended her contract at VfL Wolfsburg until 2026.

Alexandra Popp has extended her contract at VfL Wolfsburg by one more season until 30 June 2026. The forward has been at the club ever since joining from FCR 2001 Duisburg in 2012, meaning she has been involved in all of the She-Wolves’ title triumphs.

With 13 DFB Cups, seven German league titles, three UEFA Women’s Champions League successes and the 2016 Olympic gold to show for her spells across Duisburg and VfL, Popp is among the most decorated women’s players in the world.

“There is a strategy in place to further professionalise VfL”

“It’s no secret that I feel very much at home at VfL Wolfsburg and am grateful for the trust shown in me over many years,” said Popp. “I really enjoy working with the team and the coaching staff. We pay a lot of attention to detail in the way we work and I believe that helps improve quality. On top of that, there is a strategy in place and ideas to further professionalise VfL in order to remain competitive both domestically and internationally.”

“Great news”

Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football: “For VfL Wolfsburg, our supporters and for all fans of German women’s football, it’s great news that Poppi has extended her contract with us for another season. With her qualities as a genuine leader on and off the pitch, as well as her mentality, she is a role model for young players and an important element in our squad planning for next season. Furthermore, as an established name in top-level German sport, Poppi has long been a perfect ambassador for VfL Wolfsburg. That makes it all the better that this success story will continue until at least 2026.”
