VfL Wolfsburg Women have strengthened their squad for next season with the signing of a Germany international: Pauline Bremer has joined on a free transfer from English side Manchester City, who finished runners-up in the Women’s Super League last year. The forward has put pen to paper on a contract valid until 30 June 2023 with the five-time German champions and will wear the No.7 shirt.

Bremer, who was born in Ossenfeld in Lower Saxony, returns to the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga after five years away. The 23-year-old played for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam between 2012 and 2015 before spending two seasons at Olympique Lyon. Bremer won the UEFA Women’s Champions League twice with the French club (2016, 2017), while her greatest success with Manchester City was winning the FA Women’s Cup in 2019. Bremer has made 19 appearances for the national team and also lifted the 2014 World Cup title at U-20 level.

“Convinced by the concept of VfL Wolfsburg”

“I’m very much looking forward to playing for VfL Wolfsburg from this summer,” said Bremer. “A lot of people might ask why I’m leaving the booming English league. I believe in the potential of the Women’s Bundesliga and am fully convinced by the concept of VfL Wolfsburg, whose management tried very hard to get me.”

Bremer has clear ambitions for her time in the green and white shirt: “I want to use my international experience at VfL, continue my development in a new team and win both domestic and European titles. My time at Manchester City was very fulfilling and I thank the club and my teammates for everything they did for me, including during my injury absence!”
