Big stadium for VfL Women

Bundesliga away match to be played in PreZero Arena

VfL Wolfsburg Women have a real highlight on their calendars as early as Matchday 2 of the FLYERALARM  Women’s Bundesliga season, with the double-winners’ match away to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday 24 September (kick-off at 17.55 CEST) being moved from Hoffenheim’s Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion to the 30,000-capacity PreZero Arena in Sinsheim.

“Leverage the momentum”

As well as the Hoffenheim Arena making its debut, other FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga clubs are planning similar moves to larger stadia for marquee matches. SV Werder Bremen for example have already confirmed that their game against SC Freiburg on Matchday 8 will be played in the Weserstadion.

“TSG 1899 Hoffenheim moving their match against us to a big stadium sends out a strong message,“ said Ralf Kellermann, sporting director of VfL Women. “As a league, we’re setting out to leverage the momentum from a German point of view from the recent European Championship. Playing matches in large arenas is an important milestone in building up the appeal and visibility of women’s club football over the long term.”
