Behrens joins the Wolves

Green-and-Whites sign striker from Union Berlin.

VfL Wolfsburg have bolstered their attack shortly before the close of the winter transfer window by recruiting Kevin Behrens from 1. FC Union Berlin. The 32-year-old forward has registered 14 goals in 75 Bundesliga outings to date, while he also has experience on the European stage following appearances in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. Furthermore, Behrens made his senior international debut for Germany in October last year.

“Exceptionally good in the air“

“Kevin arrives in rhythm from the current season and he knows the league, so he should only need a short time to adapt,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “Over the past few years he’s consistently shown the quality he has out on the pitch. With Kevin, and in light of the absentees we have up front, we now have a striker in the squad who is exceptionally good in the air, has a great mentality and is very robust.”

“I can hardly wait“

Behrens, who has four goals in 18 Bundesliga appearances this season, as well as five outings in the Champions League and two in the DFB Cup, is eager to tackle new challenges with the Wolves: “It’s great that my path in the Bundesliga is continuing here in Wolfsburg. In the talks with the club management I quickly realised that they were really keen to have me here. Now I can hardly wait for the first training session with my new teammates and to help the team be successful.”

In Berlin since 2021

After spells at SV Wilhelmshaven, the U23 side at Hannover 96, Alemannia Aachen, Rot-Weiß Essen and 1. FC Saarbrücken, Behrens moved to SV Sandhausen in Bundesliga 2 in 2018. He caught Union Berlin’s eye with 31 goals in 94 games, and moved to the German capital in 2021.
