Aster Vranckx signs up with Wolves

The Belgium U19 international will join VfL Wolfsburg in summer 2021.

The Wolves have already secured their first new signing for the 2021/22 season with the capture of Aster Vranckx. The 18-year-old central midfielder, who has agreed a contract until 2025, will join the club from Belgian top-flight side KV Mechelen next summer and wear the number 26 shirt for the Green-and-Whites.

“Excellent opportunities”

Vranckx made the step up from youth level to the first team at Mechelen at the start of the 2019/20 season. He made nine appearances in his debut campaign in the Jupiler Pro League, posting one goal and one assist. This term, the gifted youngster has three goals in 10 games to his name. “VfL are a great club who have always been able to develop young players in the past,” said the 1.83 metre midfielder. “Young players at Wolfsburg have excellent opportunities to take the next step, and I’m already looking forward to being part of the team from next summer. Until then, I’ll continue to give my all for Mechelen so that we have a successful season.”

“Very talented player”

By signing the right-footer, who has made six appearances for the Belgium U19 team since his debut in September 2019, the VfL management have made an early start on squad planning for next season. “We’re very pleased that Aster is going to strengthen us from next summer and that we’ve been able to tie him down long-term,” said Wolves sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “He’s a very talented player who became a first-team regular for Mechelen at the age of 17, and he can operate in different roles in midfield. He’s fully on board with the path that we want to follow at VfL and it’s going to be fun working with him and developing him.”
