The She-Wolves won their second group game in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Wednesday, with head coach Tommy Stroot’s charges fully deserving of all three points away to Slavia Prague. The goals for the Green-and-Whites in their 2-0 victory came from Jule Brand (11’) and Ewa Pajor (76’).

VfL Women will be looking for another victory on Sunday 30 October (kick-off at 16:00 CET) away to Werder Bremen in the Women’s Bundesliga to make it a perfect – if busy – week for the team. In the Champions League meanwhile, their next action comes on 23 November (kick-off at 21:00 CET) when they will face Roma Femminile, AS Roma’s women’s team, in their third Group B game.

Goals

  • 1-0 Brand (11th minute): The ball is in the back of the Slavia net! VfL had been getting more of a grip on the game over the past few minutes and now they are in the lead! Huth strides up the right-hand side of the pitch once again and fires a cross into the box where Brand is on hand to stab the ball home.

  • 2-0: Pajor (76th minute): Wedemeyer brings the ball up and once again Huth is on hand to provide the assist. She slips the ball inside and there is no stopping Pajor, who slides it home at the near post.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “The main thing is the three points that we picked up today. We’ve got a tough week behind us, having played last Thursday and Sunday and now here on Wednesday. The opposition made life unpleasant for us and kept pushing us in certain areas but we deserved our win. We dominated long periods of the match, created a lot of chances and came away with the three points, so I’m a happy man.”
