A first in Almancil

Kind words, honours and a barbecue: VfL Wolfsburg men’s and women’s teams spent an evening together with the club’s fans.

For the first time at a training camp, VfL Wolfsburg men’s and women’s teams spent an evening with the club’s supporters on Wednesday. While Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side are approaching the end of their time in Portugal, the She-Wolves have only just arrived at the Conrad Algarve hotel.

Managing directors Peter Christiansen and Dr. Tim Schumacher kicked off the enjoyable get-together in the hotel’s dining hall with a warm speech. “It’s wonderful to have the women and the men sitting at the same table again this year, and to welcome the fans who have spent the past few days here with us at the training camp,” said Christiansen.

Major milestones and barbecue buffet

The managing director for sport then introduced the next part of the evening’s agenda: honouring players who have reached significant milestones at the club over the past few weeks and months. These included She-Wolves stars Svenja Huth (150 appearances for VfL Wolfsburg) and Alexander Popp (350 appearances) as well as Wolves trio Ridle Baku (150 appearances), Yannick Gerhardt (250 appearances and 200 in the Bundesliga) and Maximilian Arnold (350 Bundesliga appearances).

After that, fan liaison officer Michael Schrader – who is taking partial retirement this summer after 18 years at the club – was called to the front. A little later, an eagerly anticipated announcement rang across the room: “The buffet is open!” The barbecue had a little something for everyone, ensuring all members of the VfL entourage were able to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with full stomachs.
