12 months without a point dropped

VfL Women beat SV Meppen 3-0 to complete a perfect year in the league.

Die Frauen vom VfL Wolfsburg jubeln nach einem Tor.

VfL Women can now reflect on an unsurpassable 2022. The 3-0 win against Meppen was their 21st consecutive victory in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga, exactly a year on from the last time they dropped points in the league. A Tabea Waßmuth brace and a Pauline Bremer penalty secured the latest three points at the AOK Stadion, which hosts a She-Wolves home game for the final time in 2022 this coming Friday, 16 December (kick-off 21:00 CET), when VfL can seal top spot in their Champions League group against Slavia Prague.

Goals

  • 1-0 Waßmuth (17th minute): Jule Brand gets through down the left side and hits a low ball towards the far post, where Waßmuth is free to slot in.

  • 2-0 Waßmuth (22nd minute): Marina Hegering plays a long ball up to Alexandra Popp. She flicks it on for Waßmuth, who bags her second goal.

  • 3-0 Bremer (73rd minute, pen): After a foul by Nina Rolfes on Waßmuth, substitute Bremer places the ball on the spot and places it out of the goalkeeper’s reach into the bottom right corner.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “It was a convincing win from our side. We applied pressure from the start and created chances. I was very happy with the 2-0 scoreline at half-time. I’m delighted about having a whole year with only wins, and I also told the team that. It’s something extremely special and hard-earned. We’ve not been handed anything on a plate and have had to be alert every step of the way.”
