The German Football League (DFL) announced the Bundesliga fixture schedule for the new season on Friday. VfL Wolfsburg kick off with a home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, which will be played over the weekend of 18 to 21 September.

The Wolves’ first away outing sees them travel to SC Freiburg on Matchday 2 (25 to 28 September), before they welcome FC Augsburg to the Volkswagen Arena on the following weekend (2 to 4 October). The Green-and-Whites face a midweek visit to the record champions before Christmas, taking on FC Bayern Munich on Tuesday 15 or Wednesday 16 December. Matchday 13, the final matchday of 2020, takes place from 18 to 21 December, when VfL host VfB Stuttgart. The first games of the New Year follow between 2 and 4 January, when the Wolves travel to Borussia Dortmund. The season finishes on 22 May with a home encounter against 1. FSV Mainz 05. Cup final on a Thursday

The coronavirus pandemic posed a particular challenge in this year’s scheduling, with the season being significantly shorter as a result of the later start. Instead of August as in previous years, the campaign will not begin until 18 September, with Matchday 34 scheduled for 22 May 2021 – and a brief winter break in between.
The Supercup will not take place before the start of the Bundesliga, instead being played on 30 September. Moreover, the DFB Cup final has been moved from its traditional slot of the Saturday after the conclusion of the league season, and will instead be held on Thursday 13 May at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.
