Wolves sign Jonas Wind

The Denmark international joins Wolfsburg from FC Copenhagen.

VfL Wolfsburg have strengthened their attack with the signing of Jonas Wind from Danish top-flight club FC Copenhagen. The 22-year-old Denmark international striker has signed a contract until 2026 after passing his Wolves medical on Sunday. “I’m happy to be here,” said Wind, who has been given the number 23 shirt. “I chose Wolfsburg because VfL really wanted me. VfL Wolfsburg are a really great club and I’m very happy and proud to be part of the club now. I’m looking forward to what’s to come.”

“His development isn’t over yet”

“Jonas has very good technique, finds solutions even in tight spaces, is strong in the air and is a very good team player,” added VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “Although he already has plenty of experience, we’re convinced that his development isn’t over yet and that he’ll take the next step with us.”

Professional debut against Atletico

The 1.90-metre frontman has been on Copenhagen’s books since 2012, graduating from the youth team to the professional ranks with the 13-time Danish champions. The right-footer made his first-team debut on 22 February 2018, coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 UEFA Europa League defeat at Atletico Madrid. In total, Wind has scored 46 goals in 114 appearances in all competitions for Copenhagen, who are currently second in the Danish top flight. He has netted six goals in 16 league outings this term, as well as four goals in five UEFA Europa Conference League games.

The Hvidovre native has represented all Denmark youth teams from the U17s and made his senior international debut on 7 October 2020, when he appeared as a 72nd-minute substitute in a 4-0 friendly victory over the Faroe Islands. Wind has scored four goals in 12 international appearances, with two of those outings coming at last summer’s European Championship.
