Wimmer and Fischer spread festive joy

Traditional Christmas visit to children’s hospital.

Once again this year, VfL Wolfsburg carried out its traditional Christmas visit to the children’s clinic at Wolfsburg Hospital. Since 2007, the club has been bringing joy and distractions to the clinic, which is currently full with around 60 young patients.

Little gifts and biscuits

Kilian Fischer and Patrick Wimmer, together with mascot Wölfi, visited the children in their rooms and brought with them VfL scarfs, VfL hats, chocolate Santas and homemade biscuits from the WölfeClub 55plus. The little gifts lit up the eyes of not only the children but also the clinic staff.

“Huge delight for little effort”

The reception on the psychosomatic ward – where the players spent a particularly long time – was especially emotional, as the Wolves were greeted with posters and chants. “The children can forget that they’re in hospital for a brief moment,” said Fischer. “I just think it’s nice that we can give the children a huge delight for little effort.” Wimmer echoed his team-mate’s sentiments: “It’s always nice when you can bring a smile to the children’s faces with a little gift. Activities like this remind you what really matters in life.”

“Nice tradition”

The children and their families were delighted by the visit, and the hospital staff also appreciated it. “VfL has been coming to the children’s clinic regularly for many years and the Christmas visit has become a nice tradition,” explained Dr Sally Mukodzi, senior consultant. “The children are very excited in the run-up and look forward to the visit. VfL gives the children a lot of courage and strength with this event.”

In addition to the surprises, the VfL representatives took plenty of time for chats, autographs and souvenir photos. The aim of the visit was to give the young patients and their families some courage and comfort during what is often a difficult time, and to take their minds off everyday hospital life for a moment.
