William suffers cruciate ligament tear

The right-back will undergo surgery on his left knee.

VfL Wolfsburg have been dealt a blow with the news that William tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Fortuna Düsseldorf. The right-back underwent tests on Sunday and Monday, which determined the severity of the injury.

The 24-year-old, who has made 69 top-flight appearances for VfL to date, was hurt in a challenge with Düsseldorf’s Erik Thommy and was replaced by Kevin Mbabu in the 27th minute. The Brazilian will undergo surgery to repair the damage.
