“We’re heading to Munich to win”

VfL Women have their sights set on three points in their top-of-the-table meeting with Bayern on Friday evening.

VfL Wolfsburg Women raise the curtain on Matchday 17 of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga as they take on Bayern Munich at the FC Bayern Campus on Friday evening (kick-off 16:55 CET).
The She-Wolves are currently three points behind their hosts in the standings, so a win would leave the teams level at the league summit. A win for Bayern, however, would see them pull further clear of the Green-and-Whites.

At the pre-match media briefing, head coach Tommy Stroot spoke about…

…team news: “Camilla Küver and Luca Papp are still sidelined, and Merle Frohms is unavailable as she’s got a heavy cold.”

…the opposition: “Bayern have dropped a couple of points here and there so we need to be ready to pounce. We’ve seen that they often give opposing teams chances, like they did against Hoffenheim and in the cup against Frankfurt. They weren’t as dominant in all phases of the game as I was expecting.”

…the aim for Friday: “We’re heading to Munich in order to win. We need to be capable of producing a top-class performance on the day. In big games like this, your form on the day is an important factor and that’s something you have to try to influence. It’s about playing yourself into the right rhythm. We want to keep our chances of winning three points as high as possible.”

…his team’s mentality: “We’re aware we have an incredible winning mentality in the team. We need to show that on Friday and consequently go into the game with a certain self-confidence. There have been lots of moments this season where we’ve needed to show up, and we’ve done so. You could see that in our games against Bayern, Roma and Frankfurt, for example. I think a decisive factor is that that knowledge gives us confidence for this game. I know I can trust my team completely in matches where the stakes are high.”
