Wednesday’s Wolf tracks

Wolves in international action and VfL receive Pitch of the Year award.

VfL’s ‘Wolf tracks’ feature brings you all the latest news, stories, quotes and updates from the Wolves camp. In the latest edition of ‘Wolf tracks’, we focus on the Wolves players on international duty and the presentation of the ‘Pitch of the Year’ award in Wolfsburg.

Qualifying campaign continues: Three Wolves players have been in action for their national teams over the last couple of days. On Monday, striker Wout Weghorst came on in the 60th minute as the Netherlands thrashed Gibraltar 6-0 to stay top of World Cup qualification Group G. Renato Steffen, meanwhile, had double cause for celebration on Tuesday night. His Switzerland side consolidated second place in Group C with a 4-0 win over Lithuania, with Steffen making it 2-0 – his first goal for the Nati. In U21 EURO qualifying, Aster Vranckx was an 88th-minute substitute for Belgium in their 1-0 win over Denmark. All the Wolves’ internationals are expected back at the training ground at the Volkswagen Arena on Thursday.

Pitch of the Year: On Monday, the ‘Pitch of the Year’ award was handed over to VfL’s grounds maintenance team. The club’s Volkswagen Arena was recognised for the excellent quality of its turf by an expert panel in June.
