“We need to get our stability back”

VfL coach Tommy Stroot gives an update on his team’s situation ahead of the game against Freiburg.

VfL Wolfsburg Women are looking for their next win in front of their own fans when they take on SC Freiburg in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga on Sunday 12 November (kick-off 14:00 CET). At his pre-game media briefing, Tommy Stroot spoke about…

…squad availability: “Merle Frohms should be able to return to the squad and play in goal. It’s also looking like Camilla Küver will be involved for the first time on Sunday. With Dominique Janssen, we’re waiting to see after the final training session. Joelle Wedemeyer probably won’t be available (muscular problems), while Lena Oberdorf and Sveindis Jonsdottir are both absent (with injuries).”

…the challenge of winning the five games before the winter break: “That’s what we demand of ourselves. We’re expecting to be the clear favourites against these teams, so that’s why our main objective is to win these matches.”

…his plan for the coming weeks: “I think taking on responsibility and showing leadership will be a decisive factor now. We need to make sure we get back to the kind of stability that allows us to play with freedom, and to dominate. We won’t be able to show a 100 per cent improvement in all areas against Freiburg, but it’s more a case of working hard and finding your way back to your game through the basics. We want good basics to give us greater stability, which will in turn help us get back to top form.”
