Visit from Asia

China’s Under-16 team are currently staying with the Wolves.

VfL Wolfsburg are just one of the clubs taking part in “Bundesliga Dream China”, an exciting project founded by the German Football League (DFL). As part of the initiative, the Wolves are currently playing host to none other than China’s Under-16 national team. Since Thursday, 25 talented Chinese youngsters have been taking part in a diverse training programme at the VfL academy, which was put together by the Wolves along with the DFL and the Chinese Football Association (CFA). The youngsters will spend a week with the Green-and-Whites, during which time they will learn about more than just matters on the pitch.

International awareness

The youngsters will train at both the academy and at the Stadion am Elsterweg. Their schedule includes an average of two sessions a day, not to mention individual training and theory sessions. Naturally, a joint visit to the men’s first team’s home match against 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday is one of the main highlights of this cultural exchange, which will be accompanied by intensive media coverage. During the stay, a production team will put together moving image material for a multi-part documentary, which will be distributed via the Bundesliga’s Chinese broadcast partner Migu and social media platforms such as Weibo and Douyin.

Reunited in April

The youngsters’ departure at the end of next week does not spell the end of the campaign. Two of them will be given the opportunity to return to Wolfsburg as part of an “Extension Week” between 12 and 18 April, when they will train with VfL’s Under-16 team – which includes Chinese starlet Jingqi Jiang. VfL Wolfsburg have been highly active in China – one of the club’s main international target markets – for several years. They have welcomed football delegations from the Far East on several occasions and are also one of five Bundesliga clubs with their own permanent office in China.
