After triumphing 2-0 in the DFB Cup final earlier this month, the She-Wolves will be looking to beat FC Bayern Munich to another title when the cup winners meet the Bundesliga champions in the Google Pixel Supercup on Sunday 25 August. The game at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion in Dresden gets under way at 18:15 CEST.
Champions face cup winners
The Supercup pits the winners of the DFB Cup against the reigning league champions in the traditional curtain-raiser to the new campaign. If the title holders also happened to win the DFB Cup, they would face the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga runners-up instead – although this will not be necessary this year.
“Highlight event for women’s football”
The German Football Assocation (DFB) has hailed the latest edition of the Supercup as a “highlight event for women’s football”. Sabine Mammitzsch, DFB vice president for women’s and girls’ football, is looking forward to Dresden hosting the fixture for the first time. “We’ve already had very good experiences at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion with the women’s national team,” she said. “We can be very excited about the competition, the venue and a top-quality football encounter.”
