The FIFA Women’s World Cup has kicked off in Australia and New Zealand – and the ball is rolling again in Wolfsburg too for the VfL Women: nine players were involved on Thursday afternoon as pre-season preparations got underway for the 2023/24 campaign, including newcomers Vivien Endemann, Fenna Kalma, Lisa Schmitz and Riola Xhemaili.
Light session after summer break
The small group began the 75-minute session at 15:30 CEST, with Kristin Demann, Ewa Pajor and Joelle Wedemeyer joining the new quartet alongside U20 players Mira Arouna and Tessa Blumenberg. Tabea Sellner, who took part in Germany’s Women’s World Cup preparations in Herzogenaurach, is still on holiday until Monday. The same goes for Sveindis Jonsdottir, who played a friendly game for Iceland on Tuesday. Sara Agrez and Anneke Borbe were both absent from Thursday’s training due to muscular complaints. Kiara Beck (muscle tear) and Camilla Küver (knee) are working on their comebacks and are training individually for the moment.
New faces on coaching staff
There were numerous spectators in attendance to watch the start of training at Elsterweg, while there were also two new faces on the touchline: Laura Vetterlein, who replaced Kim Kulig as assistant coach, and new conditioning coach Hannes Mühl took part in their first public session in their new roles.
