Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg are making great strides in the digital world, breaking new ground in digital fan engagement through their partnership with Fanzone. The Green-and-Whitesâ first NFT licence partner has produced blockchain-based digital trading cards featuring players from the VfL menâs and womenâs teams.
First packs available from September 20th
Football and crypto fans can purchase, collect and trade the cards on the digital platform www.fanzone.io. In future, they will also be able to use the cards in mini and fantasy games on the Fanzone app. The collection currently consists of 61 individual cards â some of which are rarer than others â with each depicting players from the menâs and womenâs squads, not to mention the two head coaches and the VfL mascot.
Six different card packs will be available in the store at www.fanzone.io, varying in price from âŹ8 to âŹ150. On launch day on September 20th , there will initially be two menâs packs: the seven-card âEarly Wolfâ pack â costing âŹ25 and limited to 500 editions â and the âLittle Wolfâ pack, which contains five cards and is available for âŹ8. These will be followed on September 27th by further packs featuring players from the Womenâs team, as well as âmixedâ packs: âLittle Wolf Womenâ (five cards), âBig Wolfâ (seven cards), âGiant Wolfâ (nine cards) and âWerewolfâ (three cards).
âWelcome to the future!â
âThere are lots of NFT solutions in this fledgling market,â said VfL managing director Michael Meeske. âIn Fanzone, we have found a partner who puts the interests of our fans first and helps us venture down new innovative paths. Football trading cards have been close companions for fans for generations, and weâre delighted to now bring this continued enthusiasm to our supporters in digital terms â all thanks to blockchain-based applications. Welcome to the future!â
Fanzone enables fans, athletes, teams, leagues and associations to trade and use sport NFTs. An NFT (non-fungible token) is a digital asset â in this case a trading card â which comes with its own certificate as proof of ownership, similar to a certificate of authenticity. Fans are thus given the opportunity to own an original collectorâs item. Like in the physical world, rare digital trading cards can also increase in value.
âWeâre grateful for the trust placed in us and are delighted to include VfL Wolfsburg, one of Germanyâs strongest football clubs, on our fan engagement platform,â said Dirk Weyel, CEO of Fanzone Media. âItâs important to us to build a sustainable, exciting and valuable platform for sports fans and our partners â and in VfL Wolfsburg, we have a great partner who support our mission. Even after the launch edition, fans can look forward to further fantastic, special NFT releases featuring the Wolves.â
