"Very satisfied"

The coaches' thoughts following the Wolves' 2-1 win over Köln.

VfL Wolfsburg head coach Oliver Glasner and his 1. FC Köln counterpart Achim Beierlorzer both made their debuts in a Bundesliga dugout on Saturday, but ultimately it was the VfL boss who was the happier of the two come the final whistle.

His Wolves side earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Billy Goats at the Volkswagen Arena, giving the Green-Whites two victories from two competitive games this term following the 5-3 DFB Cup triumph in Halle last week.

Oliver Glasner: "We're very satisfied to have won our opening game against a very ambitious Köln side who are difficult to play against. We scored the first goal at the right time but were too passive afterwards. We discussed that at half-time and were much better after the interval. Our second goal arose from a situation we work on a lot in training: after Xaver Schlager won possession we outnumbered them and finished the move off well. We didn't allow Köln any chances apart from their consolation goal and now we're just happy to have started the season with two wins from as many competitive games."

Achim Beierlorzer: "I'm disappointed with the result. My team played well. We started bravely but then Maximilian Arnold scored a great goal just when we were starting to get a grip on the game. We didn't let our heads hang though, and tried to keep getting forward. We should have had what looked like a clear-cut penalty to me. Wolfsburg were better in the second half and their second goal was a big blow for us. Overall we pushed Wolfsburg hard in what was an intensive game."
