Training camp to begin

VfL Women’s week-long training camp at Klosterpforte sports hotel starts on Saturday.

VfL Wolfsburg Women have been working up a sweat at Elsterweg since 1 July, resuming training – albeit in reduced numbers – just over a month after the 2021/22 DFB Cup final. After a brief holiday, the She-Wolves begin the second phase of pre-season when they depart for their summer training camp on Saturday. The 2021/22 double winners will be fine-tuning their preparations for the new campaign, which will see them compete in three competitions, at the Klosterpforte sports hotel in Harsewinkel. The highlight of their stint in the Münster region is the friendly against PSV Eindhoven on Friday 19 August, which kicks off at 16:00 CEST and will be broadcast live on Wölfe TV.

No Frohms or Kassen

“Word has got round that I’m a fan of rituals,” said VfL head coach Tommy Stroot, a slight twinkle in his eye. “That’s why we’re happy to go back to Klosterpforte, because we really liked it there last year.” Stroot added that the short preparation window makes it particularly important for VfL to make the most of their time away – which is why Harsewinkel’s geographical proximity to Wolfsburg is so convenient.

Julia Kassen, who is away at the U20 World Cup, and Merle Frohms – initially at least following her positive COVID test – definitely won’t be involved. “It’s possible, though, that one or two other players might not be up to full speed just yet,” continued the She-Wolves boss, whose Germany internationals are currently undergoing various medical checks. The aim of the camp, according to Stroot, is to “grow together as a team, integrate the new players and focus on the key aspects of our game”.
