After the first two group matches, it looked as if the Africa Cup of Nations would come to an early end for DR Congo and VfL centre back Marcel Tisserand. The team went down to a pair of 2-0 defeats, to Uganda and hosts Egypt, but then in the final group match they turned it around against Zimbabwe, recording a 4-0 win that sees them through to the Round of 16. Tisserand played the full 90 minutes at the heart of the defence in that crucial victory.
Uduokhai on the bench for the U-21 final
In the final of the Euro U-21 championship, VfL defender Felix Uduokhai was an unused substitute as Germany lost 2-1 to Spain, who had former Wolf Borja Mayoral in their squad.
