TheVfL Ladies begin their winter training-camp in Faro.

From Hamburg through Lisbon and on to the desired destination: On Wednesday afternoon, the VfL crew settled into their winter training-camp on the Algarve. In the far south of Portugal, close to the city of Faro, VfL head-coach Stephen Lerch and his side will lay the groundwork for a positive second half to their season. For the seventh time, the women from VfL Wolfsburg will go through their winter training-camp at the same location. And not without reason, as the Lady-Wolves know they will enjoy perfect conditions at the tried and tested team hotel ROBINSON Club Quinta Da Ria. "We are very happy to be holding our winter training-camp in Portugal once again. We know we will be very well catered for at this hotel facility and the local training grounds provide us with ideal training opportunities to enjoy concentrated preparations for the second half of the season," commented Sporting director of women’s football at VfL, Ralf Kellermann.

Straight to work

The Green-Whites had little time to pause for a breath upon their arrival, with Lerch gathering his players on the artificial pitch on the hotel grounds in the afternoon. In beautiful weather conditions, the Lady-Wolves initially did some light jogging, with the more intensive work to begin on Thursday. Before breakfast, the crew will initially get to work in the gym, before taking to the pitch again for a double-shift of action in the morning and again in the afternoon. During the course of their ten-day stay in Portugal, the trainer-team will focus on a variety of tactical and team-building exercises. The players will also be put through their paces under realistic playing conditions: On Wednesday, January 31st (16:00 CET local-time), the Lady-Wolves will play a test friendly against Spanish first division side Sporting Huelva.
