The Wolves were successful in the first test-friendly of their training camp in Marbella, beating second division FC St. Pauli 3-1 (2-1). The club from Hamburg took an early lead through Waldemar Sobota (5’), before Jeffrey Bruma (12'), Victor Osimhen (26') and Daniel Didavi (81') ultimately turned the tie in the Green-Whites favour. Tomorrow, Saturday, January 6th, the Wolves play their second and final winter test-friendly in Spain against Dynamo Dresden. Kick-off is set for 15:00 CET. Wolves turn early set-back
In the clash with the Kiezkicker, who are currently undertaking a ten-day training-camp some 60 kilometres from the Marbella Football Center in Malaga, the Green-Whites, operating with a two-pronged attack, suffered an early setback. Looking as if he’d already lost possession, Sobota pounced to make it 1-0 for the second-flight side with the first attempt on goal in the game (5'). VfL, however, were unperturbed by conceding, took the initiative and quickly put their opponents under pressure – which was promptly to pay dividends. With winter returnee Josip Brekalo firstly denied by Pauli keeper Philipp Heerwagen (11'), Jeffrey Bruma headed home the resulting corner, delivered by Yunus Malli, to level the scores (12'). As the half progressed, Martin Schmidt’s men remained the dominant eleven and, with the best move of the first-half, the Wolves took a deserved lead: Divock Origi chased down a wonderful forward ball by Riechedly Bazoer on the right wing and picked out Victor Osimhen, who made no mistake in slotting home (26'). Daniel Didavi then provided the decisive winner, heading home a perfect cross from the right by Paul Verhaegh, to make the final score 3-1 for the Green-Whites (81').
