Straightforward home win

VfL Women end a busy week with a 3-0 win over promoted 1. FC Köln.

VfL Wolfsburg Women remain hot on the heels of FC Bayern Munich at the top of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga, consolidating second place in the table with a 3-0 win at home to promoted 1. FC Köln on Sunday.

Shanice van de Sanden, Jill Roord and Svenja Huth were on target for VfL in front of 998 fans at the AOK Stadion, with Joelle Wedemeyer celebrating her 100th competitive appearance for the Green-and-Whites.

The She-Wolves’ next game takes place on Wednesday 13 October (kick-off 18:45 CEST), when they host Swiss club Servette FCCF on Matchay 2 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

VfL head coach Tommy Stroot: “By beating 1. FC Köln 3-0 we can tick off another game. Patience, basic defensive qualities and quick transitions were key to our win today. We rotated in attack in particular, which shows we need the whole squad to be successful in busy weeks involving midweek games.”
