Stina Johannes to join VfL Women in the summer

Goalkeeper signs contract through to 2028.

VfL Wolfsburg Women are delighted to be strengthening their goalkeeping ranks with the long-term signing of one of the game’s top custodians. Germany international Stina Johannes, 25, will join the She-Wolves from Bundesliga rivals Eintracht Frankfurt for the start of the 2025/26 season after signing a contract which runs until 30 June 2028.

“A keeper with international experience”

“We’re incredibly pleased that Stina, a top goalkeeper with international experience, has decided to join us,” said Ralf Kellerman, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg. “We’re signing a keeper with outstanding ability and great personality, which she has demonstrated on a regular basis at the highest level in recent years. Stina has a key role to play in the long-term realignment of our goalkeeper position. We’re all the more pleased that we’ve been able to plan ahead by securing her services. We’re looking forward to welcoming Stina in Wolfsburg soon.”

“A privilege and a challenge”

“VfL have been one of the strongest sides in women’s football for many years,” a delighted Johannes said. “The structures in place at the club are highly professional, which makes it both a privilege and a challenge for me to be Wolfsburg’s future number one. Growing up in Lower Saxony as a goalkeeper, it’s always been my dream to play for Wolfsburg – now my dream is coming true.”

U17 European champion

Hanover-born Germany international Johannes brings huge experience to Wolfsburg. After spending several years at FF USV Jena at youth level, she made her Women’s Bundesliga debut for the club on 3 September 2017. She then moved to SGS Essen, where she racked up 33 appearances in all competitions between 2018 and 2022. After a short stint at INAC Kobe Leonessa in Japan, Johannes ended up signing for Frankfurt, playing 76 competitive games for the club to date – including 11 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Johannes made her senior international debut in a European Championship qualifier against Poland on 4 June 2024. She has since won two more caps, her last outing coming in the recent 4-1 Nations League victory over Austria. Johannes also represented Germany at U19 and U17 level, winning the European Under-17 Championship in 2017.
