The holiday period came to an end for the Wolves on the second day of the New Year. Just fourteen days after their final competitive game in 2017, the cup win away in Nuremberg, VfL head-coach Martin Schmidt gathered his men together on Tuesday to begin with the winter preparations. On the training grounds at the VfL-Center, the Green-Whites got together late in the afternoon, with a half hour’s work-out in the weight-room being followed by an hour on the ball.
Brekalo in training
There was a new face in the group in training, with the returning Josip Brekalo, who spent 2017 on loan at VfB Stuttgart, back in the VfL fold. Before departing on the loan move to the Swabians, the Croatian wore the number 25 jersey, which now belongs to John Anthony Brooks. Thus, in the future, Brekalo will be in action for the Green-Whites in the number 21 jersey. Almost the entire VfL squad was involved in the session in Wolfsburg, with merely the injured Jakub Blaszczykowski and Ignacio Camacho missing out on Martin Schmidt’s start into 2018.
Wednesday in Andalusia
On Wednesday, the VfL crew head to Marbella, Spain for their winter training-camp. The Green-Whites will remain in the region of Andalusia until Monday, January 8th. During their stay, the Wolves will play test-friendlies against FC St. Pauli (Friday, January 5th, kick-off 15:00 CET) and Dynamo Dresden (Saturday, January 6th, kick-off 15:00 CET).
