The last two games against Bochum and Gladbach were disappointing in different ways. For their next assignment against SC Freiburg on Saturday 9 December (15:30 CET), the Wolves can take confidence from the venue, among other things. That is because the Green-and-Whites have collected 13 of their 16 points at the Volkswagen Arena this season. The overall head-to-head record between the two teams is also in VfL’s favour, with 16 wins to 15 and a goal difference of 70 to 56. Here are more facts and figures on the penultimate home game of the year:
The last time Freiburg visited Wolfsburg, they conceded half a dozen goals. The 6-0 win was the Wolves’ biggest of the year, while it was also Christian Streich’s heaviest-ever defeat as Freiburg coach.
Aside from that loss, SCF have enjoyed recent meetings against the Wolves, winning three of the last four and losing just two of the last 10 (W5 D3).
In addition, Freiburg have only registered more Bundesliga away wins at Schalke (seven) than they have at Wolfsburg (six).
The Wolves are the only team still yet to score a goal on the counter in the current campaign, whereas Freiburg are the team with the most counter-attacking goals in the league.
Jonas Wind has scored nine goals in the Bundesliga this season and set up another three. The Dane has therefore been directly involved in two thirds of VfL’s 18 goals.
On the visitors’ side, Roland Sallai is the Wolfsburg specialist. The Hungarian has scored a goal in each of his two Bundesliga appearances at the Volkswagen Arena, and also laid on both goals in Freiburg’s 2-0 home win in the last meeting between the teams in May.
