She-Wolves host Swiss champions

VfL Women take on Servette FCCF on Matchday 2 of the UWCL group stage.

VfL Wolfsburg Women are set for a day of firsts on Wednesday 13 October, when they play host to Geneva-based outfit Servette FCCF (kick-off 18:45 CEST) in their maiden home match in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage. After drawing 3-3 with Chelsea Women on Matchday 1, two-time winners VfL will hope to claim their first three points in their first ever meeting with Swiss opponents in the UWCL. At Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, head coach Tommy Stroot spoke about…

…VfL’s opponents: “We’ve analysed a number of Servette games, including the one against Juventus. Although Juve were also favourites in that match, I felt Servette made a game of it, wanted to control the build-up and dictate the game. Servette are strong in the tackle, creative and have individual quality. We’re preparing ourselves for a team of internationals, but we want to live up to our role as favourites.”

…the importance of the game: “The point against Chelsea will only be of real importance if we do our homework against Servette. We know we’re favourites and want to get six points against them. That said, we’re set for a European night in which a lot can happen.”

…personnel: “The loss of Pia Wolter has undoubtedly hit us hard. Sara Doorsoun will return to the team and is a useful addition in defence. In general terms, we go into our Champions League matches with a bigger squad of 20 players – that gives us further options.”
