Season finale against Essen

The She-Wolves will play their last game of 2023/24 in front of a capacity home crowd.

The 2023/24 Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga season comes to an end on Monday, with VfL Wolfsburg Women hosting SGS Essen at a sold-out AOK Stadion at 15:30 CEST. Ahead of what is sure to be an emotional and eventful spectacle for the 4,469 fans in attendance, head coach Tommy Stroot gave his thoughts on…

…personnel: “Tabea Sellner [who recently became a mother], Rebecka Blomqvist and Camilla Küver are all still unavailable. Kristin Demann has a mild knee complaint, so she probably won’t be ready. We’ll have to wait and see about Svenja Huth, who has a bruised toe. The same goes for Alex Popp, who has a mild cold.”

…the upcoming opponents: “I’m not expecting it to be another 9-0 win. We were particularly up for it that day as we were coming off a defeat against Bayern. It’ll be a game in which Essen will put up a fight and close down the spaces.”

…the kind of atmosphere he is expecting at the AOK Stadion: “There’ll be a lot of things going on that will make it an interesting matchday. Obviously, we’re saying goodbye to a few people, so it’ll be a special atmosphere. On top of that, we want to celebrate winning the DFB Cup with our fans. There’s nothing left at stake purely in terms of points, but we want to give everyone a good send-off and finish the season the right way.”
